Thursday, August 1, 2024, Head of BPS Pangkal Pinang City Dewi Savitri released the latest inflation figures. In July, Pangkal Pinang City experienced month-to-month (m-to-m) deflation of 0.28 percent compared to the previous month, but year-on-year (y-on-y) experienced inflation of 1.4 percent. The Head of BPS Pangkalpinang City delivered notes on July's events related to price declines and spikes. Furthermore, Dewi Savitri defined the statistical indicators presented in this release.
It should be noted that this July deflation is the second time in 2024 after the fairly deep deflation in May. The main contributor to July's deflation was the food, beverage, and tobacco group by 0.26 points. The deflation in July 2024 was caused by the decline in prices of a group of food items commonly consumed by Pangkal Pinang residents such as shallots, rice, and red chilies. The decline in the prices of shallots, rice, and red chilies during July contributed to monthly deflation (m-to-m) of 0.15 points each; 0.11 points; and 0.10 points.
On the other hand, there are still commodities that have experienced price increases. The three commodities that contributed to inflation during July were Sweetened Condensed Milk 0.08 percent, Ground Coffee 0.07 percent, and Water Spinach 0.06 percent.
On the other hand, the commodities that contributed to annual inflation (y-on-y) were rice (0.57 points), Machine-made Clove Cigarettes (0.40 points) and Ground Coffee (0.11 points). It was further explained that the contribution of rice has decreased in the last four months.
After the Release was delivered, it was continued with a speech from the Assistant for Three Cities of Pangkal Pinang Agusfendi. The Pangkal Pinang City Government welcomed this release. "BPS is able to provide the latest information, hopefully this release can strengthen synergy with the Community," he concluded.
