Abstract

  • Pangkalpinang City, in May 2021 inflation was 0.23 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.73. Of the 90 CPI cities, 78 cities experienced inflation and only 12 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manokwari at 1.82 percent with a CPI of 109.47 and the lowest was in Tembilahan at 0.01 percent with a CPI of 106.82. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Timika at 0.83 percent with a CPI of 107.24 and the lowest was in Palembang at 0.02 percent with a CPI of 105.50.
  • Inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the index in several expenditure groups, namely: housing, water, electricity and household fuel by 0.17 percent; household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group by 0.05 percent; transportation group by 1.79 percent; information, communication and financial services group by 0.05 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.46 percent. Deflation only occurred in the food, beverage and tobacco groups, which was 0.26 percent. While the clothing and footwear group; health group; recreation, sports and cultural groups; education group; and the food and beverage/restaurant supply group is stable or does not experience changes in the index.
  • The largest share of inflation was contributed by air transportation commodities, mackerel fish and beef.
  • The calendar year May 2021 experienced inflation of 1.25 percent and year on year (May 2021 against May 2020) also inflation of 1.85 percent.
  • The energy component in May 2021 did not change the index with a CPI of 101.08. Meanwhile, the food component deflation was 0.40 percent with a CPI of 107.76
