Gender equality is an important issue and is the 5th goal of the SDG's.
Gender is the differentiation of roles, positions, responsibilities and division of work between men and women.
Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) recently issued a new indicator related to gender, namely the Gender Inequality Index, or what is abbreviated as IKG. BPS prepares the IKG with the aim of helping the government evaluate development achievements according to gender.
Pangkal Pinang City's IKG in 2023 is 0.217 points. This figure illustrates better gender inequality compared to the Bangka Belitung Islands Province region with a IKG of 0.490 points, also better than the national figure of 0.447 points.
IKG has a value between 0 and 1. The smaller the value, the more equal the level of gender inequality in a region and vice versa.
From the IKG it can be seen to what extent suboptimal human development is caused by gender inequality based on three dimensions; namely the reproductive health dimension; empowerment dimension; and labor market dimensions.
