Based on poverty data in 2017, the poverty rate of Pangkalpinang City is 4.8 percent. This means that out of 100 people, there are 4 to 5 poor people. The poverty rate is the third lowest number of all districts / cities in Bangka Belitung Province. The poverty rate calculated by BPS uses the concept of basic needs approach. With this approach, poverty is seen as an economic inability to meet the basic needs of food and not food as measured by the expenditure side. The main data source used to calculate proverty rate is National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) data.
