Abstract

  • In May 2020 inflation occurred by 0.51 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 102.83. Out of 90 CPI cities, 67 cities experienced inflation and 23 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tanjungpandan by 1.20 percent with CPI of 104.57 and the lowest occurred in Madiun, Bogor and Tanjungpinang by 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Luwuk by 0.39 percent with CPI of 106.41 and the lowest occurred in Manado by 0.01 percent.
  • Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.78 percent; transportation group by 1.79 percent; and clothing and footwear group of 0.05 percent. While the group that experienced deflation, namely the group of equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.10 percent; information, communication and financial services group of 0.06 percent; and personal care and other services by 0.04 percent. While housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups; health group; recreation, sports and culture groups; education group; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group did not experience a change in index / stable.
  • During the calendar year January-May 2020 deflation occurred by 0.08 percent with year-on-year (May 2020 against May 2019) also deflation of 0.45 percent.
  • The energy component in May 2020 was stable or did not experience changes in the CPI of 101.35. While the foodstuff component experienced inflation of 1.00 percent this month with CPI of 99.73.
